« Je souhaite proposer à différents artistes liés aux quatre galeries associées pour The Fair Gallery de choisir avec moi une ou plusieurs de leurs œuvres existantes qui ont la caractéristique d’exposer leur processus de création.
Après un échange que je souhaite développer avec chaque artiste et ouvrir aux quatre galeries, je souhaite demander aux auteurs des œuvres sélectionnées d’en choisir une ou plusieurs avec moi. Les artistes auront préalablement accepté que cette œuvre soit exposée et ensuite dé-créée lors de l’inauguration de la Frieze Art Fair ou progressivement pendant toute la durée de la foire.
Les artistes choisiront eux même le processus et la durée du retour de l’œuvre dans le champ matériel, si celle-ci a les caractéristiques d’un objet. Si l’œuvre est une idée ou un concept les artistes devront proposer les moyens de produire son retour dans le langage commun.
Pour attester du retour de ces œuvres dans le monde physique ou symbolique, les artistes devront accepter de signer une décharge qui déclare l’expropriation de leur droit en tant qu’auteur sur ce qui en reste.
Les artistes resteront propriétaires, comme les galeries, des matériaux ou de tout autre élément restant et de la part qui leur revient en cas de vente.
Les galeries seront libres de vendre ces matériaux ou ces éléments en tant que tel et de ne pas changer le prix initialement prévu pour les œuvres.
L’acquéreur éventuel devra accepter par contrat l’achat de ces matériaux ou de ces éléments et ne pourra en aucun cas revendiquer la propriété d’une œuvre d’un des artistes. Il sera libre par contre de faire référence à leur provenance. »

Pierre Bal-Blanc a organisé en 2008 l’exposition Reversibility lors de la Frieze Art Fair. Une nouvelle version de l’exposition sera proposée au Cac Brétigny en octobre-novembre 2009. Cette exposition, dont le protocole est précisé dans la note ci-dessus, propose à des artistes de déconstruire (ou "dé-créer") leurs œuvres. Dans le cadre d’une foire, cette atteinte à l’autonomie de l’œuvre joue un rôle critique face au marché de l’art. Il est d’ailleurs difficile de supposer à l’avance la réaction du marché, vu que le retour de l’œuvre parmi les objets communs est augmenté du geste du commissaire qui, malgré le fait qu’il ne puisse poser de signature au même titre l’artiste, fait événement avec cet acte. Déplacé dans le contexte d’un lieu non marchand, ce projet est donné à être perçu sous un autre angle. C’est tout d’abord la puissance des agencements des matériaux et leur processus qui sont mis à plat, exposés comme autant d’énigmes.
Alors qu’au Cac Brétigny, les œuvres déconstruites seront exposées, ce seront la documentation et les longs échanges de mail qui ont permis cette exposition qui seront présentés à Bétonsalon. Plutôt qu’une lecture fleuve, ces documents seront, d’une part, intégrés au corpus de la documentation des projets de Playtime et présentés par les guides tout au long du festival, et, d’autre part, présentés sous la forme d'une conférence autour des œuvres détruites, déconstruites et dé-créées (date non confirmée).
Pierre Bal-Blanc est le directeur du Centre d’Art Contemporain de Brétigny, où il a réalisé des expositions de David Lamelas, Teresa Margolles, Roman Ondak, Markus Schinwald, Santiago Sierra, Franz Erhard Walther, Clemens von Wedemeyer et Arthur Zmijewski, entre autres. Dans sa série d’exposition itinérante et internationale la Monnaie Vivante, il négocie l'analyse actuelle et historique du corps et des stratégies liées à la performance dans les arts visuels. "I wish to propose that artists connected to the four galleries affiliated with "The Fair Gallery" choose an individual work or several existing works together with me which has or have the characteristic of revealing the creative process by which it has or they have been made.
Following a discussion which I wish to undertake with each artist, and open to the four galleries, I intend to ask the authors of the selected works to choose an individual work or
several works with me. The artists will agree that the particular work will be exhibited and then “de-create” (or disassembled) and left in place during the opening of the Frieze Art Fair or alternatively progressively disassembled during the fair's duration.
The artists will be free to choose the process and the time necessary for the work's return to its material state if this takes the form of an object. If the work is an idea or a concept,
the artist must propose the means of effecting its return to the realm of common language.
In order to attest to the work’s return to the physical or symbolic realm, the artists must agree to sign a disclaimer relinquishing their rights as author over the remains of the work or works.
Each artist remains the owner, along with the gallery, of the materials or any other remaining element and of any part that may be due to them in case of a sale.
The galleries are free to sell these materials or elements as such. However, they must not alter the original stated price of the work or works in question. The eventual buyer must accept, through a written contract, the sale of these materials or elements and can in no circumstances
claim ownership of a work or works by any of the exhibiting artists. However, he or she is free to refer to their origin."

Pierre Bal-Blanc has organized the exhibition Reversibility in 2008 at the Frieze Art Fair. A new version of the exhibition will be proposed in Cac Bretigny in October-November 2009. The exhibition, which the protocol is specified in the note above, offers to artists to deconstruct (or "de-create") their works. In the actual show, this attack on the autonomy of the work plays a critical role in the art market. It is difficult to assume in advance the reaction of the market, since the return of the work among the common objects is increased by commissioner gesture who, despite the fact that it can not pose the same signature as the artist, made this event with that same act. Moved into the context of a non-market, this project is given to be seen from another angle. Firstly the power arrangements of materials and processes that are laid flat, exposed as riddles.
While at Cac Bretigny, deconstructed works will be exhibited, this will be the documentation and lengthy exchanges of mail that have allowed this exhibition to be presented at Bétonsalon. Rather than readed in sequence, these documents will be, in one hand, integrated into the body of the documentation of the projects presented by Playtime and guides throughout the festival and, on the other hand, presented on 10 October under the form of a conference on the destroyed, deconstructed and de-established works.
Pierre Bal-Blanc is the Director of the Center for Contemporary Art Bretigny, where he has made exhibitions of David Lamelas, Teresa Margolles, Ondak Roman, Markus Schinwald, Santiago Sierra, Franz Erhard Walther, Clemens von Wedemeyer and Arthur Zmijewski, among others. In its series of international exhibition and the Monnaie Vivante, he negotiated the current and historical analysis of the body and strategies related to performance in the visual arts. He recently commissioner the exhibition The Death of the Audience in Secession (Vienna).
